(NYSE: DSW), the leading branded footwear and accessories retailer, has announced its winner in its Shoe Lovers Care Leave Your Mark program: the Alzheimer's Association, based in Chicago, IL. This nonprofit organization was nominated by Patti Gilligan, Director of Change Management at DSW, and its mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
From June 6 through June 24, 2014, Shoe Lovers everywhere voted up to once per day on shoeloverscare.com to decide which organization they felt was most deserving of the grant money. The other finalists included ASPCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio, Furniture Bank of Central Ohio, Girls Inc. of Orange County, LifeCare Alliance, and Stop Hunger Now.
On July 9, 2014, a check was presented to the Alzheimer's Association at their headquarters in Chicago by Patti Gilligan alongside DSW CEO Mike MacDonald and Manager of Community Relations Jonica Armstrong. Attendants from the association included:
